It is a great challenge for anyone educated in an American school system to represent the principles of the heart, which are revolutionary in our mind-centered culture. Some would say the philosophy of the heart is a throw-back to classical Christianity, or an expression of the compassionate history of Buddhism, but others would say it's a radical vision of the only workable future.

For example, the teachings of the heart are to

• Give more than you receive; this is the only protection your heart needs.
• Honor all your emotions as crucial messages from your heart. Avoid no feeling; harnesss them all to your productive use.
• Go beyond honesty to saying the only things worth saying, from an open heart.
• Look for the dimensions of the heart in everyone, and own everything you see.
• Blame no one for anything.
• Recognize pessimism as an illness of the heart, and optimism as coming from love.
• Find the purpose of your life, and give your life to it.
• Transform the difficulties, distortions and ailments of others by absorbing them into your energized heart.
• Use your body as an instrument of your heart, providing sensations that encode your inner wisdom.
• Welcome diversity and difference as enriching rather than threatening.
• Guard your conscience, not your pride.
• Don't try to be something you are not; you are already greater than you can imagine.

We feel these teachings bring physical, emotional and spiritual health, and answer the dilemmas facing our culture at this time. Whether you see these principles as revolutionary or just common-sense, they still need practice to make them your own, and even more practice to be able to represent them to others with integrity.

Our method is not simple: it has a series of steps and stages. It is best taught by those who have mastered it.

The IAM teachers are specially trained and certified to meet these high standards.

Instructor Certificates

IAM is focused on teaching those who will teach others this method of heart development. Our goal is to teach Heart Rhythm Practice to a million people, which will contribute to the shift happening in our time from the mind to the heart. To meet that goal, we have to train hundreds of capable teachers.

While mind-based meditation is easier to teach (one school says learning their meditation is about as hard as learning how to brush your teeth), heart-based meditation is more difficult, comparable to learning how to swim. To offer this work to others, you will need a comprehensive training.

Our certificate training prepares you to offer Heart Rhythm Meditation or Heart Rhythm Therapy to your clients or the public, at several levels.

Upon completion of each of the 200-level courses in the IAM curriculum, a certificate is awarded to teach the corresponding 100-level course as an IAM Certified Instructor. There are eight such instructor certificates; you can begin by teaching the Introduction to Heart Rhythm Meditation course, and then expand your teaching after taking further teacher training.

IAM supports its instructors with advertising materials, course outlines, course handouts, a reference on our Instructor page, a page of your own on our website, and credit card billing.

IAM Professional Teacher

IAM awards the certificate of Professional Teacher, with authority to teach all of IAM's curriculum in weekly classes, public seminars, or private sessions, upon...

1. Completion of the courses in the Teacher track (see the right column),
2. Completion of a 7-day private retreat with one of the founders of IAM.
3. Demonstration of the seventh step of heart development and the second stage of character development.

An IAM Professional Teacher is required to not only know the IAM material and be able to teach it, but must also be able to model the consciousness and energy of the heart in their personal life. Consequently, the third requirement of a heart-centered and noble character that is not automatically developed by completing the course requirements.
