Master Level
These courses present the core concepts and methods of IAM
and are part of the Master of Applied Meditation degree. The goal is the
experience of stages one and two of the
five stages of Heart Rhythm Meditation.
Offered as webcourses and live seminars. |
Instructor Level
Go farther into the IAM methodology and apply the energies and qualities
of your heart to building a grand and noble character in everyday life.
Upon completion of each of these courses a certificate is awarded
to teach the corresponding 100-level course as an IAM Instructor. |
Advanced Level
For the advanced practitioners in IAM, these courses lead to the great
goal of mysticism, stage five: the experience of being the
microcosm of the macrocosm. |
101 Heart Rhythm Meditation
Learn basic Heart
Rhythm Meditation, the method of feeling your heartbeat and
synchronizing your breath to produce a rhythmically-changing heart rate.
This heart rate pattern gives cardiac strength and emotional power, and
makes living from the heart attainable.
You will learn and practice the Conscious Breath, Full-Breath, Rhythmic
Breath, Swinging Breath, and the Heart's Guidance. No previous
experience with meditation is required.

201 Teaching Physiological and Emotional Self-Regulation through Breath Control and Biofeedback
Use Heart Rhythm Meditation to reduce stress and fatigue, lower blood
pressure, halt arrhythmia, increase HRV, and improve immune response,
circulation and sleep. The ancient method is taught with modern
biofeedback to monitor Heart Rate Variability, exhaled CO2 level, Vital
Capacity, skin temperature, and the magnetic field.

301 Experiencing the Universal Heart
Take Heart Rhythm Meditation to the height of experience in the
Infinite, Perfect and Eternal Heart of the Universe. This creates a stable stage 3
meditation.
(Prerequisite: 201) |
102 The Four Elemental Energies
The four subtle energies -- Earth, Water, Fire and Air -- are the energetic building
blocks of creation. By recognizing the Elements in all activities, things and beings, you gain insight into the invisible and inner forms behind the outer forms.
The Elements are the omnipresent, inexhaustible forces that heal and develop your heart.
By the use of these energies, you can shift your attitude and approach, and
expand consciousness.
Based on the book,
Living from the Heart.
(Prerequisite: 101)
more |
202 The Twelve Archetypes
Recognize the 12 archetypes of the soul, comprising the 4
Elements and the 3 paths, in yourself and others.
These source archetypes are idealistic and energetic,
giving rise to personality and behavior.
The archetypes are identified by non-verbal, objective means and give
invaluable insights into the nature of your Self.
(Prerequisite: 102)
|
302 Global Interventions
Radiate Waves of Peace to harmonize and inspire others and transform
life situations. This ability accompanies the mystic's sense of global
responsibility, beyond personal freedom. Participate in a scientific study of the effects of
Heart Rhythm Meditation on violent crime in a distant city.
Uses the Contemplation practice and the Earth Element.
(Prerequisite: 202, 104) |
103 The Four Dimensions of the Heart
Based on the book,
Energize Your Heart in Four Dimensions.
Practice using the "Six Basic Powers" to develop the four dimensions of your
energetic/emotional heart, the model at the core of Energy Psychology. Measure your
Heart Rate Variability and interprete it to show your heart's
dimensions. Begin the goal attainment process by which you practice
setting high and achievable goals and accomplishing them by the use of energetic
forces. Explored the levels of the energetic heart from the surface
to the deepest layer of emotion: pure peace. Apply the dimensions of your heart with
the "Exercises for Life".
(Prerequisite: 102)
|
203 Energizing the Four Dimensions of the Heart with Sound
Learn to use self-produced, cosmic sounds that directly stimulate your
heart. Audio spectrum analyzers and
amplitude -vs- time graphs are used for feedback in practicing
these intense sounds and demonstrating their effectiveness.
The attainment of a meditative state is made rapid and reliable, allowing
you to live from your heart in daily life.
(Prerequisite: 103, 202) |
303 Invocation
Referring by name to the qualities and capabilities inherent
in all things, and using the vibration of those names to awaken the
corresponding aspect of one's Self, brings you to stage 4 of meditation.
(Prerequisite: 203) |
104 Heal Your Heart
Restore your natural optimism and attain real self-confidence, confidence in the
power of your heart, by the application of the four Elemental Energies in Heart
Rhythm Meditation. Learn how the wounds of your heart develop pessimism, and how
you can attain permanent optimism. Develop self-mastery through simple breathing
techniques. Heal your emotional heart of its three kinds of wounds by applying the
five kinds of spiritual energy. Study and practice the technique of Contemplation,
to enter the heart of another, experience their point-of-view, and add their
insight to your own.
(Prerequisite: 102)
|
204 Energetic Relationships
Relationships of all types proceed through stages;
stages one through three are common and four through six are exceptional.
Learn the challenges of each step and how to transition your
business or personal relationship to the next step.
Your understanding of others depends on your ability to recognize yourself in them,
and your ability to assist in the growth of others depends on your knowledge of what they
need to develop at this time. To make relationships work harmoniously,
the energies of those involved must be either similar, complementary or heart-centered.
These are skills that are developed in this course.
This course extends the study and practice of self-mastery begun in 202 and 203.
(Prerequisite: 104, 203)
|
304 The Practice of Remembrance
The classic practice of mystics gives the experience of re-union in stage 5.
Remembrance creates an integration of all four dimensions of the heart.
It uses the energetic pairing of center #3 and #6 to effectively focus energy into the Heart.
(Prerequisite: 104, 303) |
105 The Seven Energy Centers
This model of the chakras has been updated from the Hindu system
by mystics in the last thousand years, and is aligned with the
physics of light. These energy centers in the body are paired
and interact around the central heart energetic. The Elemental Energies are
intensified when directed through the centers.
(Prerequisite: 104)
|
205 Accomplishing Your Heart's Wish
The method for
choosing and accomplishing your next goal depends on your archetype, and knowledge
of your archetype will make your work most efficient.
Conversely, the work of accomplishment can develop the great archetypes of your
soul from potentials to mature states of being, usable in your life.
Here you will discover and practice the methods of extraordinary success that allow you to avoid the three temptations. (Prerequisite: 105) |
305 Following the Guidance of Your Heart
Become decisive and confident in your decisions by learning the specific signals your
body gives continuously, strengthened by meditation.
Develop confidence in your decisions by experience with the accuracy of your intuition.
(Prerequisite: 107, 304) |
106 IAM Research
Students choose a research topic to demonstrate the application of Heart Rhythm
Meditation to health, well-being or relationships through a Single-Subject Design (SSD).
The accomplishment of the research is guided by the extensive teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan
on choosing and attaining a goal. His book, "Mastery Through Accomplishment" is used
as a text, and the research project is used to apply the teaching to a specific project.
The ability to accomplish your heart's wish, which is learned and practiced in this
course, can then be applied in all aspects of one's life.
| 206 The Map of Heart Development
Locate yourself in the map that spans the whole sequence of adult development,
starting with the power of mental concentration, through the mystical awakening of the
guidance and power of the heart, and progressing to the ultimate experience of
the common heart of all. By understanding the nine steps you will know
what's behind you and what's ahead of you, what to rely upon in your
self and on what to focus your development now.
(Prerequisite: 101)
|
306 The Path to Illumination
After the first six steps of The Map where individuality is
strengthened, are three more steps of the experience of unity
consciousness. This course begins with steps seven to nine, which bring
one to personal and cosmic integration.
Beyond these nine steps come nine additional steps of illumination and
attunement with universal consciousness and energy. These steps, while
not necessarily achieved, wil be experienced at least as temporary
states. When these states are stable, the ability to radiate visible
light can be measured here.
The goal of the last nine steps is not personal development; it is to be
of service to humanity by accepting personal responsibility for global
events.
(Prerequisite: 106, 107) |
107 Transformation of the Three Egos

The study of how people can create lasting change has always been a topic for spiritual schools. In the last hundred years, an holistic process called Sohembo (so-HEM-bo) has been developed that discards no part of the person, resulting in complete integration of the self. This replaces the old system of Alchemy, which discards part of the self, with the best of what is now known from biology, physics, psychology and mysticism about how organisms and systems naturally mature and evolve holistically.
Managers, educators, therapists and parents need to know how Sohembo works and can be used to bring a person's essential, soul qualities into their personality, their life and even into their body, and simultaneously evolve the soul through life experience.
By resolving past traumas and overcoming addictions, one becomes truly effective.
This process of co-creation of the self is aligned with courses (105) "The Twelve Archetypes" and (106) "The Map of Heart Development".
(Prerequisite: 105, 106)
|
207 Education and Life's Purpose
Building on the process of Sohembo, you will practice applying the process of transformation to yourself and others, both children and adults.
This is a comprehensive method for education at all levels.
Once the power of creation within your heart is accessed, it can be harnessed to recreate your outer self from your new understanding of your inner self. You become the artist of your own image and behavior.
The goal for your self-creation is to become what you need to be to fulfill the wish of your heart and ultimately the purpose of your life.
(Prerequisite: 107) |
307 The Levels of Reality
Beyond the four levels of self which are explored in Sohembo, there are more abstract
levels of transpersonal reality that unite all beings. From undifferentiated oneness, to the planes of highest consciousness, vibration, light and the essential archetypes,
spirit condenses into matter like water into ice, to
encompass the seen and unseen, inner and outer aspects of all life.
Advanced meditation is introduced in this course that carries one into stage 3 of the Five Stages of Consciousness. This is the only course in the IAM curriculum that employs Kundalini energy to lift consciousness into the highest levels of Samadhi. At this point, it is safe to do this because your heart has become so magnetic that it will reassemble your self in a heart-centered identity.
(Prerequisite: 107, 207)
|
108 The Culture of the Heart
The message of the heart is both familiar and radical.
It incorporates the wisdom of the past and prepares us to fulfill our lives.
Here we both study and experience the teachings of the path of the heart
which have been developed and refined up to the present day as instructions to
humanity: how to live in the only manner that can sustain our evolution -- from the heart.
The key principles of the heart will be derived, demonstrated and discussed.
Heart-centered philosophy will be clarified by contrast with popular books and teachings that are definitely not heart-centered.
(Prerequisite: 101) |
208 The Nature of Self
Coursing through all traditions, cultures and religions is a progressive
revelation of the nature of the self, the one reality and the relationship
between the two. From the point-of-view of the heart, religion and philosophy across the ages has developed in humanity an ever-richer realization of the divinity of the human being.
Topics include sub-personalities, possession, gender determination, sexuality,
self-will, destiny, the evolution of religion, prayer, existence before and after life, and the influence of planets upon humans and vice-versa.
(Prerequisite: 108)
|
308 The Spiritual Network
How to take your place in the hierarchy and synarchy of beings who inspire and
guide the progressive steps of humanity's evolution.
Experiences in this course wil give you direct access to the inspiration and function of the great prophets of humanity, both men and women, across cultures and ages and into the present. Discover the nature of the communication and operation of the illuminated masters who take responsibility for the wellbeing of others in overlapping circles of influence over a group of people, a geographic region or a type of work.
(Prerequisite: 208, 306) |
