Meditation in the GardensMeditation in the Gardens Ongoing Sundays, 9 – 10:30 a.m. Held outdoors when weather permits.Relax at Olbrich Gardens and try a unique combination of Heart Rhythm Meditation and Tai Chi. Heart Rhythm Meditation is meditation in stillness; Tai Chi Wellness is meditation in motion. Both practices help to decrease reactivity to stress, enhance mental focus and clarity, and expand one's sense of well-being. Together, these two complementary practices are beautiful and practical methods of improving health, balance, and well- being. Heart Rhythm Meditation is a seated practice that cultivates mindful attention to the breath and heartbeat. Tai Chi Wellness is a standing practice that coordinates the breath with slow, flowing movements to promote strength, flexibility and balance. Reported physical benefits include enhanced lung function, improved circulation, and moderation of blood pressure. Research indicates that Tai Chi-based movements are one of the best fall prevention practices, and that what benefits our hearts also benefits our heads - in other words, healthy heart practices benefit brain function and memory. And we can enjoy ourselves as we do them! The instructors are Kevin Walsh, MM, RN, Certified Heart Rhythm Meditation Teacher (Institute for Applied Meditation, Tucson) and Jody Curley, MA, Certified Heart Rhythm Meditation Instructor and Certified Tai Chi Chuan Teacher (William C. C. Chen Tai Chi Chuan, Inc. New York City). Kevin and Jody are seasoned instructors with decades of experience teaching a diverse group of people in a variety of places, including healthcare, university, community recreation, fitness center and private class settings. Class Information: Held outdoors when weather permits. On-going Sundays, 9 – 10:30 a.m. Check with teachers concerning holiday weeks. Walk In, $10/session. Attend eight sessions in a row, and receive your ninth session free. |
